When we think about and look for a plan for how to lose weight, we usually think about an uncomfortable process where we feel deprived, stressed and miserable. If you consider a diet a process with a start date and an end date for 2020 – those uncomfortable feelings are most probably true. You may feel that you have to sacrifice something, usually happiness, in exchange for a slimmer body.
Weight loss, however, doesn’t have to be like that. With the right weight loss plan, it can actually be a very enjoyable process where you direct your curiosity and awareness to explore your patterns through feelings, emotions and sensations and lose weight while learning to connect with yourself on a deeper level. You can fall in love with the person you are.
Accepting your body doesn’t mean that you have to live in a body that carries excess fat. Accepting your body means learning to love the body that carries you and through that, allowing your body to transform and lose all that extra weight.

Shifts in awareness start when we slow down and start noticing subtle changes. They ignite our curiosity to explore deeper.
Listen to Your Body
Many people don’t know whether they are really hungry or not, and they reach out for food as a habit rather than a need.
Just before you reach for food, ask yourself the following 3 questions:
- Am I really hungry?
- What am I hungry for? (Hint: if it is not a specific food or snack, then you are probably not hungry)
- Where in my body do I feel hungry? (Hint: if it isn’t in your tummy, then you are probably not really hungry)
When you eat, set your intention on the food in front of you.
- Eat when you are hungry, stop when you are satisfied.
- Eat slowly, chew more, enjoy the taste of the food, its texture, smell…
- Be curious about your food and challenge yourself to discover new layers of flavor in every bite you take.
- Breathe between bites. Put your fork down when you chew.
- Stop every couple of bites and ask yourself how you feel. Are you still hungry? Or are you satisfied and ready to stop eating?
Remember, the 10th bite has the same taste as the first.
Load your plate with smaller amounts of food. Once you are done eating the food that is on your plate, take a small pause to check in with yourself and evaluate your satisfaction level.
If you feel satisfied before finishing the food on your plate, just leave it there and move your plate away.
Oftentimes we confuse thirst with hunger.
Drink more water so the false alarm of hunger won’t go off.
By drinking more water, you will also feel more refreshed, energized and focused.
When you start noticing some changes, it is time to start your 2020 weight loss plan!
